Kind Organics was formed in the year 1999 as a Demeter Certified Bio-Dynamic/Organic Farm by our dear friend and founder Alex Schafer. The farm was located on a 100 acre rural property in King Township that used to be the Michaelhaven live-in school and facility for the mentally challenged. Kind Organics ran as a 20 member CSA share farm for the period of two years, the farm was sold and Alex Schafer moved on to other things.
Kind Organics is now located 40 minutes north of Toronto in the Holland Marsh area of Southern Ontario. We grow Salad Blends, Sprouts, Wheat Grass, Micro Greens, Fine Culinary Herbs, Edible Flowers and various kinds of Baby Greens. Kind Organics uses organic farming techniques only and we are moving towards bio-dynamic farming. The farm is located on a small rural property; prior to our move here in 2009 the land had not been farmed for almost 20 years. We try to till as little as possible to preserve the rich nutrient & microbial content of the soil. In 2010 we are in the process of expanding from the use of 6 2000 sq foot greenhouses and 3 acres of land to 9 greenhouses and 4-5 acres. |

What we grow:
We grow roughly 25 kinds of lettuces which we blend together along with 10-15 kinds of herbs and 10-20 different kinds of edible flowers. We create different salad blends; check out our products page to view more details and to order from us.
We grow about 20 kinds of sprouts, Sunflower, Pea Shoots, Buckwheat, 15 Kinds of Micro-Greens are grown and blended together.
We grow a range of baby greens and other leafy vegetables for blending; here�s a partial list (please be sure to check out the products page): Spinach, Kale, Rainbow Swiss Chard, Arugula and Asian greens. |

Our growing methods:
Water: One of the benefits of being in the Holland Marsh is an ample supply of ground source water. We water all of our crops using well water only. We filter our well water through an Iron filter for removing metal deposits, a Carbon filter for removing any organic matter & sediments, and a UV filter for killing any pathogens or harmful microorganisms. Our waters pH is balanced at 7.0 and our water is naturally not hard therefore we do not pass it through a softener or add sodium to it.
Soil: We grow all of our sprouts in trays containing certified organic soil that we have purchased from Pefferlaw Premium Soil Products. The fields that we grow our greens in hasn�t been worked or sprayed in over 20 years.
Seed: We only purchase certified organic seeds. We order all of our sprouting seeds from Mumm�s Sprouting Co, and we get there rest of our seeds from other reputable sellers of certified organic seeds. |
